Abstract

590,005. Drilling. HARPER, G. H., (Representative of HARPER, T.). April 10, 1945, No. 8817. [Class 83 (iii)] In drilling holes diametrically through cylindrical stock, the work is clamped between two V-blocks, the upper of which has a bushing for guiding the drill ; and a vernier scale attached to position accurately the hole to be drilled. Two V-blocks A, B, Fig. 1, are mounted one above the other on studs C and each is recessed at F to accommodate springs G normally holding the blocks apart; clamping being effected by knurled nuts D. A hole H is. positioned in the upper block equidistant to the angles formed by the square aperture made by the V-shaped recess E, and at right angles and vertical to the aperture in a horizontal plane. Bushes J fit the hole H to guide the drill &c., each bush having a flange cut away to engage the head of a screw M, thus preventing the bush from rotating. A slider O having a scale P and stop Q constituting a vernier gauge is also secured to the block A accurately to position the hole, and the lower block has feet R for clamping to the bed of a machine &c.
