Abstract

589,306. Hydraulic jacks; vehicle fittings for loading and unloading. WALKER BROS. (WIGAN), Ltd., and DUNSTAN, T. W. Dec. 21,1945, No. 25749/44. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle having a storage chamber formed of a number of substantially semi-cylindrical elements 3, 4, 5, 6 one nested within the other, is adapted to be collapsed or extended by connection to a multiple unit hydraulic or pneumatic ram formed of a plurality of telescopic, double-acting, piston and cylinder units. In Fig. 4, the end cylinder 21 of the hydraulic ram is provided with orifices 22, 23 subject to pressure or exhaust fluid and the intermediate cylinder is provided with a piston 24 with orifice 25, and a jacket 26a is in communication with the orifice 23 and the space above a piston 27 through an orifice 34, the piston 27 being connected to a piston rod 28. Pressure fluid through orifice 22 acts on piston 24 and passes through orifice 25 to act on piston 27 to fully extend the ram whilst when pressure fluid is applied through orifice 23, the piston 27 is retracted and then the piston 24. As applied to a refuse cart provided with telescopic sections 4, 5, 6, Fig. 2, telescoping into a fixed section 3, the end section 6 is provided with an inclined floor 13, Fig: 1 (not shown) which covers the ram in its collapsed position, the outer end of the ram being connected to a transverse member on the floor. When the load is to be discharged the ram is extended and the loads in sections 3, 4, 5 discharged, the load in section 6 either sliding out by gravity on the inclined floor 13 or is removed by hand.
