Abstract

1,267,122. Side shift mechanism for fork lift trucks. BYGG-OCH TRANSPORTEKONOMI A.B. 14 April, 1970 [6 June, 1969], No. 17722/70. Heading B8H. Lateral guiding means for the fork arms 5a, 5b of a fork lift truck comprises supporting pegs 2a, 2b mounted on a vertically movable attachment 1 on each of which a tube 3a, 3b is slidably mounted and a guiding collar 4a, 4b is slidable on each of the tubes 3a, 3b, the fork arms being attached to the collars 4a, 4b. A two-way hydraulic ram 6 is connected to the collar 4a via pistonrod 7 and link 8 and moves the collar towards and away from the attachment 1, the collar 4b moving simultaneously by means of racks 9a, 9b and a toothed wheel (10), Fig. 2 (not shown). During outward movement the collars 4a, 4b move the tubes 3a, 3b by means of abutments (16) on their ends. When the collars 4a, 4b are retracted by means of the piston 7 the tubes 3a, 3b are also retracted by means of an hydraulic cylinder (13) and rod (15), Fig. 5 (not shown), in the hollow pegs 2a, 2b and tubes 3a, 3b which is connected to the same compressed-medium system as the cylinder 6. In the fully retracted state of the fork arms 5a, 5b, Fig. 4 (not shown), the lengths of the tubes 3a, 3b are such that they do not project to any great extent beyond the sides of the truck. To prevent rotation of the tubular system 2a-4a under loads on the forks, splines (20), Fig. 5 (not shown), are provided in grooves (21) between adjacent tubes and collars or alternatively the said pegs, tubes and collars may have partially non-circular cross-sectional shape, thus preventing their relative rotation.
