Abstract

Casings and wrappings for sausages, meat or other food products are formed from a film of extrudable synthetic plastic material with which is incorporated a substance imparting a smoky flavour to the food product, for example, a smoky fraction of a wood distillate. Polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl copolymers, vinylidene chloride and rubber hydrochloride are referred to as suitable plastic materials, and a plasticiser such as butyl phthalyl butyl glycollate may be incorporated. The substance imparting smoky flavour may be added to the plastic material from which the casings and wrappings are made, or the formed casings and wrappings may be coated with the substance imparting smoky flavour on the side in contact with the food product.ALSO:Substances imparting a smoky flavour, e.g., a smoky fraction of a wood distillate, are added to a film of extrudable synthetic plastic material from which casings and wrappings for sausages, meat or other food product are manufactured, either by incorporating the smoky substance in the plastic material itself, or by coating the formed casing or wrapping on the side in contact with the food product. Polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl co-polymers, vinylidene chloride and rubber hydrochloride are suitable plastic materials.
