[Class 140] In an apparatus for re-inking ribbons of various widths or lengths having a base with upright members thereon adapted to carry wind-on and wind-off bobbins, an ink-containing device between tne uprights through which the ribbon is drawn and a frame adapted to be lifted away from said vessel and supporting two rollers under which the ribbon passes to receive the fresh charge of ink, one of the said rollers co-operating with another roller to express superfluous ink from said ribbon, there is provided a resilient means, which may be adjustably mounted on the base for holding the frame in the operative position. As shown, the reels 42, 43 are mounted between fixed and adjustable conical bearings, 9, 12 respectively on shafts 8, 8' supported on uprights 2, 2<1> carried by slides 3, 3' adjustable in guides 4 parallel to the reel axes to centralize the reels with respect to the inking device. Reels of small size are mounted between a reduced conical bearing 13 on the shaft and the adjustable conical bearing 12. The inking device comprises a trough in which are journalled an inking brush 35 dipping in the ink and a rubber covered roller 25. Pivoted at 22 on the trough is a frame 23 carrying a rubber-covered roller 24 adapted to co-operate with roller 25, and arms 31, 32 between which are mounted a roller 33, the spindle of which carries a pinion adapted, when the frame is in the operative position shown in the full lines, to gear with a pinion on brush 35. In this operative position, the frame is held down by releasable spring devices 29 which may be adjusted to cause the roller 24 to press to a desired degree on the roller 25. The frame is swung up to the position shown in dotted lines, when threading the ribbon through the apparatus, the course taken by the ribbon being from reel 8, under roller 33, between rollers 24, 25, under a pivotally mounted tension roller 41 to reel 8<1>. With the frame 23 in the depressed position, the ribbon is drawn from reel 8 to reel 8' by operation of a crank handle 14, being inked in transit by the brush 35, and surplus ink being squeezed out by the rollers 24, 25.
