845,778. Printing machines. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Sept. 18, 1958 [Oct. 17, 1957]. No. 32471/57. Class 100(2) Apparatus for printing on the exterior of circular cam bodies comprises a continuously rotating impression-imparting member 1, one or more arms 4 pivoted at 7 to a rotating carrier 5 and supporting a cam body-receiving mandrel 9, rotatable about an axis parallel with the axis of rotation of the carrier, and a cam 12 adapted to constrain the axis of each mandrel to follow a path parallel with the impression-imparting surface of said member during the engagement between the surface and a cam body carried by the mandrel. Each arm 4 is acted upon by a spring 14 so that a roller 16 freely rotatable upon the mandrel 9 and of the same diameter as the cam, is kept in contact with fixed cam 12. Each cam is rotated about its axis during printing either frictionally by contact with the member 1 or positively by a gear wheel. Cams of different diameters may be printed by the use of suit- ,ably sized mandrels, together with rollers 16 of the same diameter as the cams being printed. The member 1 has rubber offset blankets which pick up ink from, for example, up to four different colour inking units. Apparatus for feeding the cams to and delivering the cams from the mandrels, may be used in conjunction with the apparatus described above.
