[Class 100 (ii)] Hectograph master sheets, which may be either mirror script or unreversed (for transfer to a gelatine surface), are made by superposing a continuous strip of master-form material on a strip coated with hectograph ink, printing either on the outer side of the form material to produce a mirror-script copy on the back or on the non-coated side of the coated strip to produce a positive, and inserting a continuous, protective strip between the coated strip and the hectograph-printed surface of the master strip. A web 10 perforated along the middle line 12, or slightly off that line, and coated on one half 11 is folded along the line 12 with the coating inside the fold, and is printed in a press 15. A protective strip 16 from a supply roll 18 is interposed between the folds by means of a turning bar, after which further printing is effected at 21, .marginal feed-perforations are punched in the strips at 19, and the strips are perforated transversely at 29, cut transversely by a knife 26 and delivered into a box 28. The transverse cutting may be omitted and the strips delivered folded zig zag, in which case the protective sheet may be removed continuously during use, e.g., by means of a turning bar. Part of the printing- surface of the press 15 may be soft rubber types which print without transferring the hectograph coating. Where the line of perforations 12 is slightly off the middle line, the bottom sheet of the final assembly projects beyond the protective sheet the width of which is such that this sheet projects beyond the top sheet, whereby removal of the protective sheet is facilitated.
