Abstract
588,141. Electron discharge apparatus. RAYTHEON MANUFACTURING CO. April 28, 1944, No. 8057.. Convention date, March 6, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron discharge device comprising a sealed envelope containing an elongated cathode and an anode structure having adjacent anode arms defining at least one transverse cavity resonator, the free ends of the arms constituting electron-receiving portions, tuning is effected by adjustment towards or away from the resonator of a conductive member supported within the envelope adjacent the free ends of the anode arms. The magnetron shown comprises an anode block 1 in which are formed a number of resonance cavities 12 with radial passages separated by electron-receiving arms 13 and communicating with a central space surrounding an indirectly cathode 6. A tuning member 20 having a conductive lower face 21 is sealed to a corrugated diaphragm 26 also sealed to a cap 2 having a central aperture and is provided with a threaded extension 22 engaged by an internally-threaded disc 23 which extends slightly beyond the block 1 and the upper polepiece N and is knurled for operation by hand. The diaphragm 26 is biassed downwardly by the external atmospheric pressure which maintains a projection 24 on the disc 23 in abutment with a depression in the cap 2. Energy may be withdrawn from one of the cavities by a coupling loop and concentric line. The member 20 is provided with a slot for passage of the upper cathode lead 7.
