588,001. Pickling and tinning. ELECTRO-CHEMICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and SMART, A. Jan. 9, 1945, No. 710. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVI] Apparatus for use in a plating or pickling process for conveying articles from bath to bath comprises a frame or beam suspended from two or more endless chains arranged in rectilinear formation whereby this frame is raised and lowered and traversed horizontally, the frame having means for automatically engaging containers or carriers for the articles to be treated and also for automatically disengaging therefrom whereby it may elevate simultaneously two or more carriers from their respective baths and then deposit them in adjacent baths. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 4, the frame b is suspended from endless chains c driven by an electric motor d and is provided with hooks b<SP>1</SP> which on the upward movement of the frame engage parts a<SP>2</SP> of handles a<SP>1</SP> on the carriers a for the treated articles to remove them from a bath. During the subsequent movements of the frame the carriers are traversed forwardly over adjacent baths and then lowered to be deposited in them. Continued lowering of the frame effects disengagement of the hooks from the carrier handles and they are then traversed rearwardly to engage under the handles of other carriers. The chains c each pass round four sprockets c<SP>1</SP> one of which is adjustably mounted for tensioning purposes. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2, each chain passes over two sets of four sprockets.
