Abstract
587,090. Lens - retaining stops. KAPELLA, Ltd., PHILLIPS, A. C., and COLTMAN, D. C. W. Jan. 2, 1945, No. 122. [Class 97 (i)] A bezel stop for retaining a lens against axial displacement in its mount consists of a ring of which the outer peripheral part or a metallic part carried thereon is united by soldering, brazing, or welding to an anchoring strip or strips carried by the lens mount in such a position that the inner part of the ring bears directly or through a spacer upon the lens surface. The anchoring strip may be a continuous or interrupted metal ring secured frictionally or by welding &c. in a recess formed in the, wall of the mount ; or it may be formed by electrolytic deposition on the wall of a metallic mount. In one example, a bezel stop A, Fig. 1, of L-shaped cross-section, fits over the lens mount B so that the slightly-protruding lens C is engaged by the inner flange A<2> of the stop. The anchoring strip B' is recessed into the mount B, and the outer part A<1> of the stop is spot- or seam-welded to it at B<3>. The ring A may rest on an annular shoulder formed on the outside of the mount B to avoid undue pressure on the lens. The ring B<2> may have a metallic surface to facilitate welding &c., and for this purpose also the ring B may have recessed internally therein an annular anchoring strip which may be metallically faced, and if the stop is of non-conducting material, it may be perforated at intervals to permit insertion of the welding &c. tool. In another example, the stop D, Fig. 7, is welded inside the lens mount E to an anchoring strip E', the. flange D<2> engaging the lens C. Specification 566,698 is referred to.
