Abstract

553,727. Diamond-tools. HARVEY, R. L. April 14, 1942, No. 4867. [Class 124] In a diamond tool the diamond is rigidly fixed in a metal setting from which it projects in opposite directions to provide two similar or different cutting members, and the setting itself is removably fixed in a holder with either of the cutting members projecting. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the diamond 1 is sprung into a U-sectioned split ring 2 and silver-soldered in position, whilst the ring is secured by screws 6 to a holder 4 having a recess 5 for the cutting member of the diamond not being used. A cap 7 with an aperture for the diamond is then screwed onto the holder and locked in position by a screw 9 engaging a sloping groove 10. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the diamond 1 is gripped between two steel plates 11 with chamfered holes, the plates being soldered, brazed, welded, or screwed together. The plates also have peripheral notches to receive projections 16 on the holder 14, and chamfered edges for engagement by a sloping shoulder 19 on a screwed cap 17.
