Abstract
586,811. Submersible pumps. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Nov. 6, 1944, No. 21700. Convention date. Nov. 6, 1943. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] In a submersible pump of the type comprising an oil chamber between the motor and the pump impeller, the passage for pumped fluid is formed between concentric cylindrical inner and outer walls of the pump casing, and adjustable sealing means are provided between the motor and the inner wall and between the inner wall and the oil chamber. The pump is of the centrifugal type. Volutes 12, 14 open out into an annular chamber 30 which communicates with an annular passage 16 formed by inner and outer walls 18, 20 and terminating in a discharge pipe 26. The outer wall 34 of the chamber 30 aligns with the wall 20, and a sealing ring 42 is clamped between an annular flange 36 and a ring 43 by means of bolts 48. The oil chamber 60 is slidably received within the inner wall 18, and a sealing ring 54 provides a seal between the wall 66 of the oil chamber and the walls 31, 18 ; the seal is adjustable by means of screws 55 and an annular member 52. The space 51 is open to the fluid within which the pump is submerged. A further seal ring 82 is seated between an annular recess 80 at the other end of the oil chamber and a split ring 84 which is held by an annular ridge 86. The driving motor 8 is connected to the wall 68 of the oil chamber by bolts 92 and to a cylindrical member 98 by bolts 130. The motor cable 120 passes through the end wall 100 of the member 98 and a sealing gland 124. The junction of the member 98 with an annular wall 102 integral with the inner wall 18 is sealed by a sealing ring 112 which is held in engagement by a cap 106. Tightening of the bolts 114 which attach the cap 106 to the end wall 100 pulls the casing 98 and the oil chamber 60 to the right so as to tighten the sealing rings 112, 82 simultaneously.
