[Class 83 (iii)] A work-holder for use on the tables of planing, milling, boring, &c. machines comprises two opposed elongated brackets a having flanges a<1> for attachment to the table band flanges a<2> which slightly overhang the space between the brackets to provide clearance for projections on the work h. The work rests on horizontal surfaces g of the flanges a<2> and is clamped against them by one or more narrow levers k on each bracket. The levers fulcrum on pins n and are actuated by nuts m on studs l projecting from the brackets, springs m<2> being provided between the levers and brackets and the nuts acting through one or two spherical washers m<1>. The gripping ends k<1> of the levers are convex, serrated and hardened to engage the work. The flanges a<1> have slots d to receive bolts projecting from T-slots in the table and keys o may engage further slots in the flanges and table. The flanges a<1>, a2 are united by webs a3 and two pairs of brackets may be provided to grip the work on four sides. Notches i may be provided in the flanges a<2> to clear projections on the work, and packing may be placed between the work and the surfaces g. In a modified form, the clamping levers k, Fig. 4, fulcrum in recesses a<4> in the brackets a and are actuated by nuts m on T-headed bolts p whose heads lie in recesses q in the brackets. Several work pieces v may be secured to a bar r having an undercut recess s engaging an inclined machined face on one bracket and clamped thereagainst by the lever k on the other bracket. One end of the bar is inclined at r<1>, Fig. 5, so that the lever k may force it against turn buttons t mounted by pivots u on the brackets a. The levers k may be actuated by cams instead of the nuts m and the cams may be fluid-pressure operated, possibly underremote control.
