Chucks.-In a vice or chuck having jaws adapted to conform with the shape of the work, the gripping-surfaces are composed of a number of slotted sliding plates 2 mounted on a clamping screw 5 and pressed outwards by springs 4. The plates are further secured in position by a plate 6 which is pressed upwards by a wedge 7. The work is clamped in the jaws 1 by means of a spindle 9.
