Turning.-In a lathe tool turret, a central pillar b carries a transversely-pivoted handle c to release the clamping pressure between the turret a<1> and the fixed base a, by a slight rotation of the pillar b, after which cams c<3> co-operating with a plate a<6>raise a rod d with a transverse pin d' passing through slots b<2> in the pillar b and attached to a collar e, which lifts the turret a<1>to allow the recesses a<5> to clear the pin a<3> for indexing the turret. Other cam-surfaces c<1> may be provided to engage the plate a<2> to clamp the turret firmly in operative position. The pin a<3> may be spring-controlled to facilitate engagement with the holes a<5>.
