Abstract

874,505. Work-holders. TRUTONE PRODUCTS Ltd. Sept. 29, 1959 (Nov. 6, 1958], No. 35633/58. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A work-holder comprises a base 1 carrying a fixed-jaw 14 and a lever 16 pivoted at 18 carrying a movable-jaw 141, the lever being actuated by a toggle mechanism. An extension 19 of the lever is pivoted at 161 to a handle 22 having an arm 23 pivoted at 231 to links 24, pivoted to an abutment 25 on the base, the abutment 25 being adjustable by a screw 26 to vary the closed-position of jaw 14<SP>1</SP> to suit the size of the work. In operation, the abutment 25 is adjusted and a screw 29 on the lever 22 is set so that when the lever is moved towards the abutment 25 and the screw 29 abuts a projection 27 on the base, the toggle 23, 24 is brought into line, thus clamping a workpiece between the jaws. The block 10 on which the jaw 14 is secured, and the lever 16, have holes 21 at rightangles so that the jaws may be secured to any side thereof, and a number of differently-shaped jaws for gripping shaped workpieces are described. The faces 2, 3 of the base are machined so that it may be arranged for gripping either vertical or horizontal work, holes 4 accommodating holding-down bolts or clamping-pins projecting from clamping-blocks 6, Fig. 3. Soldering.-In order to preserve the mechanism from heat during a brazing &c. operation, extensions 65, Fig. 11, may be applied to the block 10 and lever 16, each carrying a screw 66 which may have a cupped-end to press pins 68 against a ball-ended shank 69 during brazing..
