Abstract
586,771. Knitting - machines, BENTLEY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and BENTLEY, W. T. Oct. 7, 1944, No. 19289. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] To receive the knitting needles or other sliding members in a flat or cylindrical bed 1, a broad groove 2 is cut wide enough to accommodate two or more trick walls or blades 3 and one spacer member 4 which may be used to wedge the trick walls in position. For a cylinder the blades 3 may be initially oversize in thickness and a light machining cutter of the required thickness passed between the blades to make the sides of the trick parallel to a plane which is radial to the cylinder axis. In another form blades of predetermined taper may be used ; alternatively blades which are corrugated may be employed, the corrugations increasing in depth towards the outer edge of each blade. The effective faces of the blades 3 are those of the crests 6a of the corrugations, and the reverse of a crest is a recess 6b.
