[Class 61 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A flat or rotary file has two sets of parallel grooves a, b, respectively, of equal pitch and arranged cross-wise to one another, in which one set a is disposed at an angle to the side edges of the file and the other set b is arranged at right-angles to the direction of motion of the file whereby teeth d are formed each having the shape of a pyramid the base of which is a rhombus, the apices of the teeth being out of alignment in the direction of cutting so that overlapping grooves are cut in the work which merge to form a smooth surface.
