Abstract
586,435. Gas turbine plant. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and HAWTHORNE, W. R. Jan. 31, 1944, No. 1806. [Class 110 (iii)] Several independently mounted and oppositely-rotating rotors 23 carry two tiers of blades, the outer tier forms an air-compressor and the inner tier, a turbine. A combustion chamber, 6, 8 with deflecting vanes 7 makes a complete reversal flow. Power for an air-screw is taken off by a separate turbine rotor 29 which drives a shaft 32 and, through reduction gearing 38, an air-screw 40. The exhaust is reversed in flow again in the bends 10 and is passed to a propulsion jet 12. The air intake is located at the forward end of the unit and behind the airscrew.
