586,347. Seats. CHRISTIE, B. A., and HARRIS & TYLER, Ltd. Dec. 15, 1944, No. 25199. [Class 52 (ii)] A main frame 11 supports a sub-frame 24 carrying a flexible seating surface 40, the subframe being angularly adjustable on a transverse shaft 20. The shaft carries a friction clutch which holds the sub-frame in its adjusted position but which can be released by an operating rod 43. At its ends the shaft is mounted to move vertically in the main frame and is urged upwardly by springs 17 so that when the seat is unoccupied it rises in the frame and the movement is transmitted through bell cranks 27, 31 to the clutch which is thereby released and the sub-frame returns to its normal position by the action of springs 54 connected to the frame bars 25. The forward part of the seating surface is constituted by a rigid plate 41 mounted on curved stays 42 and the leg rest 49 is connected to the sub-frame by links 52 which raise the leg rest as the seat back is swung down.
