585,591. Electric induction heating. STEINWAY & SONS. May 4, 1944, No. 8428. Convention date, June 22, 1943. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] Wood is treated by baking at 375-425‹F., in a high frequency electric field. A treating apparatus Fig. 3, comprises a generator e, with a central electrode 20 and top and bottom electrodes 18, 19, between which are placed strips 21 of wood to be treated. The electrodes 18, 19 may be in the form of hollow press platens to allow circulation of cooling liquid (at 32‹F.) to prevent surface burning, and maintain a temperature difference of 15-30‹F. between the inside and the outside of the strips. The baking may be intermittent.
