Abstract
A method of sterilizing a product having substantial thickness comprises bringing the product to sterilizing temperature by high frequency inductive heating means effective to heat all parts of the product uniformly and substantially simultaneously and thereafter maintaining the product at sterilizing temperature by subjecting it to an external application of heat for a sufficient time to ensure complete sterilization of the product. Thus a continuous process for sterilizing surgical dressings is carried out in an apparatus comprising a high frequency generator for delivering the necessary current to a pair of electrodes, a heating oven or chamber adapted to receive products from between electrodes and a conveyer for receiving and carrying the products through the oven. Specification 475,631, [Group XI], is referred to.ALSO:A method of sterilizing a product having substantial thickness comprises bringing the product to sterilizing temperature by high frequency inductive heating means effective to heat all parts of the product uniformly and substantially simultaneously and thereafter maintaining the product at sterilizing temperatures by subjecting it to an external application of heat for a sufficient time to ensure complete sterilization of the product. Thus a continuous process for sterilizing surgical dressings such as gauze bandages or cotton rolls is carried out in an apparatus comprising a high-frequency generator for delivering the necessary current to a pair of electrodes, a heating oven or chamber adapted to receive products from between electrodes and a conveyer for receiving and carrying the products through the oven. Specification 475,631, [Group XI], is referred to.
