Abstract

Aqueous dispersions of a solid, finely-divided polymerized ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid, or of a water-insoluble, solid, finely-divided interpolymer of the ester with one or more ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable compounds, in which the ester is present in preponderating amount, are used for the filling of leather (see Group VIII). The methyl, ethyl or propyl esters may be used, and the interpolymers may comprise a different ester of the acids, styrene, vinyl chloride, p acrylonitrile, or a fumaric acid ester. The dispersions may be applied in conjunction with leather-treating solutions containing chrome sulphate powder, common salt and sodium bicarbonate.
