Abstract

Tennis courts are surfaced with a mixture of cement-free disintegrated mineral material, optionally a pigment and an aqueous vinyl resin dispersion which contains at least one polymer of vinyl acetate and a plasticizer if necessary. The polymer may be polyvinyl acetate or a copolymer of vinyl acetate with another copolymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound. Examples of the latter are vinyl chloride, vinyl isobutyl ether, vinyl benzoate, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, isopropyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylic acid nitrile, acrylic acid amide, styrene or camphene. A specific composition is 40% of a copolymer of 48 parts n-butyl acrylate, 49.8 parts vinyl acetate and 2.2 parts acrylic acid, neutralized with ammonia, 0.5% sodium a -oxydecane sulphonate, 0.5% non-ionic emulsifying agent, remainder water.
