Abstract

Coatings comprise a base layer of polymeric material with a layer of hard particles 200 mu across partially protruding from the surface. Pref. the particles are all of similar size, 25-150 mu and a mixt. of >1 hard material, specif. calcined bauxite, quartz or quartzite, pref. anchored by a polyurethane adhesive into a support layer of a filled PVC cpd. with an uneven surface. The surface profile may comprise random or ordered channels which assist drainage via holes provided at intervals through the support layer. Compsn. is used in mfr. of surface for, e.g. running tracks or tennis courts or for the paved area of hospitals, swimming pools, showers etc. and offers surface which is impervious to water from rain or washing, not dangerously slippery when wet and not excessively abrasive on feet or shoe soles.
