CHARLES S. BUSHELL, OF BELOIT, WISCONSIN.
RESILIENT HEEL ATTACHMENT.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, CHARLES S. BUsHnLL, citizen of the United States, residing at Beloit, in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Resilient Heel Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to resilient heel attachments, and has for its object to provide a simple attachment adapted to be easily and quickly applied to the heel of a boot or shoe, and which when in position will render walking easy and will eliminate the jlarl incident to inflexible or non-resilient ee s.
With this object in view the attachment includes a lift of relatively hard sole leather, said lift being provided with one or more openings which gradually decrease in transverse sectional area from the upper to the lower surface of the lift. A cushion of rubber or'other resilient material is forced into each opening and the said cushions project below the lower surface of the lift.- A'
layer of flexible material, such for instance as thin leather or canvas is applied to the upper surface of the lift and cushion and serves as means for holding the cushion or cushions in position.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following descrlption and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe with the heel attachment applied; Fig 2 is a perspective view of the attachment; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the attachment.
orresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying mg by the same reference characters."
The resilient heel drawwhich is rovided with one or more openings 2. 9 said openings '2 decrease in transverse sectional area from the The shape of the openings is immaterial. They may Specification of Letters Patent.

be square, round, octagonal, or of other configuration. A cushion 3 of rubber or other soft resilient material is forced through each opening 2 so that its lower end portion projects below the lower surface of the lift. The upper surface of the cushion is flush with the upper surface of the lift. A layer of material 4 is secured by an adhesive to the upper surface of the cushion 3 and lift 1 and serves as means for holding the cushion in the lift.
When the attachment is applied to the heel of a shoe, nails, screws, or other securing devices are passed through the lift 1 openings 2. The said securing devices are also driven or forced into the heel of the shoe or boot. By such an arrangement it will be seen that a simple heel attachment is provided which when applied to the heel of a boot or shoe will render the same resilient and easy, and at the same time the resilient material will tend to prevent the heel from slipping on smooth or icy pavements.
. Having thus described my invention, what 'is claimed as new is:
A cushion heel including a lift member having a plurality of frusto-conical' openings which taper toward the tread face of CHARLES s. BUSHELL. 1. 8.
