[Class 87 (ii)] , Butter is forced from a tube 11 by a piston 16 through an orifice 15, and is cut into pats by a wire 55 which sweeps across the orifice. The piston is depressed intermittently, and the wire is traversed across the orifice, by rocking a handle 35 which is keyed to a cam shaft 32. The shaft depresses a pawl 24 which engages teeth 30 on the piston rod 17 and depresses the latter against the pull of a spring 45, and simultaneously a drive is transmitted through gears 56 57, and a clutch and shaft (not shown) to rock the frame 53 (which carries the wire 55) against spring action. When the handle 35 is released, the pawl is disengaged by a spring 26 and a spring detent 36 moves in to engage teeth 30 and hold the piston down. The piston, handle and gears are carried by a cover 4 hinged to a casing 1 at 7, and the cover is held down by latches 22, 23 which engage grooves in the top of posts 8 threaded into the base of the casing. When the tube 11 is empty, as shown in Fig. 5, the piston is released by disengaging the latch 23, this disengaging movement being transmitted by stud 43 and an arm (44, not shown) to the pawl and detent to release them from the teeth 30. The spring 45 then raises the piston and the cover may be opened. When the piston rod 17 rises, it uncovers a vent 48 in the piston 16 and, by means of links 49, tilts the piston, so that any suction is prevented. An ice chest is accommodated in the housing.
