Abstract

584,909. Buoyant electric cables. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and HAMILTON, G. M. Aug. 21, 1941, No. 10664. [Class 36] A buoyant electric cable consists of a core comprising cylinders 1 of soft cellular rubber with disks 2 of wood, ebonite &c. between them, the disks and cylinders being held together by rubberized fabric tapes 3 ; a tubular rubber envelope 4 is applied over the core by extrusion or by helically winding rubber tape with a wide overlap, preferably 50 to 70 per cent., the envelope being applied under tension to compress the cylinders 1 to the diameter of the disks 2. A rubberized fabric tape 5 is helically wrapped over the rubber 4, over which the conductor wires 6 are stranded and enclosed in a rubber covering 7. The rubber 4 is vulcanized on to the core, preferably after the covering 7 has been applied, so as to unite with the core.
