Abstract

Cellular soft rubber is made by incorporating in a rubber mix a vulcanization accelerator and a gas-producing substance so chosen and proportioned that on heating at a steady temperature vulcanization proceeds rapidly relative to the rate of evolution of gas in the first part of the heating, whereby the partially vulcanized rubber acquires the necessary strength to withstand the pressure of gas liberated in the later part of the heating. In an example tetramethylthiuramdisulphide is used as accelerator in amount such that the time of vulcanization does not exceed an hour and a half at 100 DEG C., and diazoaminobenzene in amount up to 3 per cent. by weight of the mix.
