Abstract

Vulcanized rubber is reclaimed by finely disintegrating and heating to below its decomposition temperature, initially in moisture-free oxygen or compressed air, e.g. for 1/2 hour at 280 DEG F., and subsequently in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, e.g. for 4 hours at up to 310 DEG F. The air may be displaced, after the initial heating, by dry steam.
