Abstract

[Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXII] A metallic fastening is attached to a metal article 10 having a non-metallic protective coating 16 bonded thereto by projecting the fastening through the coating on one side and electric welding it to the core, while leaving the coating on the other side intact. Composite building sheets comprising a preformed sheet of insulating board 12 secured by the fastenings 20 to a coated metal sheet may thus be made, or coated metal sheets provided with fastenings such as bolts which may be extended through the framework or supporting structure of a building and secured by nuts. The fastening such as a nail 20 may be pressed through the board 12 by the welding electrode 26 or the fastenings may be unheaded and the board attached after the fastenings are welded to the plate 10. The latter comprises a metallic core 14, which may be corrugated or flat and carries on each side a layer of metal adhesive 16 such as zinc or tin alloyed thereto over which is keyed a non-metallic coating such as asbestos paper or felt preferably impregnated with asphalt. One terminal of the electric circuit is connected at 22, 24 to the exposed edges of the sheet 10. The coating may alternatively be of baked enamel.
