Abstract

1,225,500. Curable metal-prepreg laminates. BECK, KOLLER & CO. (ENGLAND) Ltd. 31 July, 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 40641/67. Heading B5N. A laminate comprises a layer of pre-preg bonded between two metal foils by means of an adhesive primer coating on said foils, the prepreg comprising a substrate (e.g. glass fibre cloth or mat, sisal paper, synthetic fibre, asbestos) impregnated with a mixture of unsaturated polyester, ethylenically unsaturated comonomer and metal oxide or salt, which has become viscous and non-tacky. Subsequently, the laminate is cut, shaped or formed and heated to cure the resin. An enamel finish may be applied prior to curing and stoved during curing. The metal foils can be aluminium or an aluminium alloy and the adhesive may be a ZnCrO 4 /epoxy resin/polyamide composition. The resin composition p can contain styrene as the comonomer and Ca, Ba or Mg oxides, and may include fillers, e.g. china clay or talc, and other additives.
