Abstract

583,654. Mixing-machines. SIZER, A. W. Nov. 14, 1944, No. 22402. [Class 86] A mixing-machine comprises a chamber and a plurality of vertical parallel rotary worms therein, at least one of said worms being constructed or operated to carry a different load than the others. Screw worms 2, 3, 4, Fig. 1, are mounted with their axes in a common plane, and the worm 3 has a helical blade of larger diameter and of opposite pitch to those of the worms 2, 3. The three worms are driven from a common shaft 8, the worm 3 being rotated in a direction opposite to that of the worm 2, 4. Material to be mixed is fed into a sump 24 to be raised by an external bucket conveyer 18 to the top of the chamber 1, to be mixed by the worms 2, 3, 4 and to be delivered by oppositely pitched worms 16, 17 on a cross shaft 15 to a chute 19 and thence to the sump 24. From the latter the mix may be continuously re-circulated through the chamber 1 ; and when the mixing is completed a valve may be operated so that, instead of being returned to the chamber 1, the material is passed from the conveyer 18 to chutes 20 for delivering into bags or sacks.
