Abstract
582,819. Foundry patterns. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. July 17, 1944, No. 13637. Convention date, July 15, 1943. [Class 83 (i)] A pattern comprises a number of pattern parts 10, Fig. 5, connected together by hinge pins 11, by wires 10b, Fig. 12, or by a flexible textile or other strip 10a, Fig. 11. In making a drag 20, Fig. 9, having a re-entrant cavity 210, a pattern is used consisting of a part 6, Fig. 4, with a shoulder 7 having recesses 8 to receive the hinged pattern chain 10. After the sand 22 has been rammed and the mould inverted, the part 6 only is withdrawn axially. A tool having a foot 31, Fig. 10, to rest in the core print, and a rotatable pillar 26 is then inserted in the mould and a hooked member 34, pivoted to the pillar, is moved to engage a pin 10<4>, Fig. 5, of the end member 10<1> of the chain 10. A spring 35 is then allowed to move the hook back into the position shown, thus drawing the member 10<1> and the pillar &c. is rotated on its base thus winding up the chain of parts 10 and withdrawing them from the mould. The whole device is then removed from the drag axially and a core and cope are applied. Additional means for locating the parts 10 on the part 6, such as a pin 10<6> which engages a hole 10<8>, may be used.
