[Class 135] In a valve having two relatively movable ported members 2, 9, ports in the member 2 are formed with recesses 5 having a flanged ring 7 of hard material, e.g. bronze, pressed against the surface of the other member 9 by a composite ring having layers 61, 62 of different degrees of resiliency. The members may have flat faces and the movable one be acted on by a ball race 16 adjustable to compensate for wear by a nut 18 and thrust washer 13.
