Abstract

Salts of aminoalkyl esters are prepared by heating one molecular proportion of a monooxyalkylamide of an aliphatic or aromatic-aliphatic carboxylic acid containing at least eight carbon atoms in the presence of water with at least one molecular proportion of a water-soluble acid at a temperature below 120 DEG C. until the product is soluble in water. The salts are textile assistants and may be used for softening and for preventing the agglomeration of fibres of cellulose artificial wool. In examples: (1) stearic acid ethanolamide is heated with formic acid; the product dissolved in aqueous acetic acid is used for softening viscose artificial silk; (2) oleic acid monoethanol amide is heated with formic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, glycollic acid or hydrochloric acid; (3) formic acid is heated with coconut fatty acid ethanol amide or ricinoleic acid ethanol amide to give products which yield foaming opalescent solutions. Lauric, palmitic, montanic and hardened blubber fatty acids are specified as well as 2-oxypropylamine, butanolamine and butylethanolamine. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of a product prepared by heating phenylacetic acid ethanolamide with aqueous formic acid. Specification 337,737, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to.
