[Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Acetates, &c.-The process described in the Specification 3849/13 for obtaining a cellulose ester soluble in ethyl acetate is employed for the production of an ester of any other desired degree of solubility, by heating to a high temperature an aqueous solution of the ester in the absence of hydrolytically-acting substances until the desired solubility is obtained. In an example, an acetate prepared from cotton, acetic anhydride and acid, and sulphuric acid as described in Specification 21,628/01, is treated with diluted acetic acid and sodium acetate. and the mixture heated to 100-110‹ C. until a sample is soluble in acetone. Products soluble in mixtures of chloroform and alcohol or of acetone and ethyl acetate may also be obtained.
