Abstract
581,295. Pyrophoric lighters. SYLVESTER, J., and WARD, A. Aug. 28, 1944, No. 16281. [Class 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XV] The fuel container 4 of a cigarette lighter is pivoted at 14 to an outer casing consisting of two side walls 1 connected along two long edges by a rounded back 2 and along two short edges by a wall 3 so that when the container and casing are folded together the wick nozzle 5 and spark-producing fitting 6 are hidden from view. The walls of the casing may be coloured to resemble a book. The absence of projections renders the lighter suitable for use as a puzzle. The fuel container may be built up of a metal strip 9 bent at right angles to form the walls 10, 11 of the casing, a V-shaped metal strip 12 welded, sweated, or brazed to the walls 10, 11, and a top wall 13, bored to receive the wick nozzle and spark-producing fitting 6, welded, sweated or brazed to the strip 12 and wall 10. A small block 15 is welded, sweated or brazed at the corner of the fuel container to receive the pivot pin 14.
