580,851. Compound sheet materials. SHAKESBY, L., WATTS, J. T., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 10, 1944, No. 451. [Class 140] A liquid fuel container has walls of a composite fabric consisting of two or more layers of fabric and one or more layers of an N-alkoxymethyl polyamide or interpolyamide, the layers of fabric and polyamide being firmly bonded together and at least one layer of polyamide being enclosed between two layers of fabric. When three plies of fabric are used the middle ply may be arranged on the bias. The fabric 'may be woven from cotton, rayon, or nylon. The N-alkoxymethyl polyamides and interpolyamides may be prepared as described in Specification 573,482, [Group IV], a solution of N-methoxymethyl-polyhexamethylene adipamide in ethanol and water, chloroform, or trichlorethylene is spread on a cotton fabric, a similar fabric previously coated on one or both sides with N-methoxymethyl-polyhexamethylene-adipamide is applied, and the solvent is allowed to evaporate. Heat and pressure may be used to give a stronger or harder bond. The fabrics and the interlayer of N-alkoxymethyl polyamide or interpolyamide may be united by other adhesives such as a solution of a polyester-amide mixed with an organic diisocyanate as described in Specification 579,340, or an interpolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile. The container may be provided with further outer layers of self-sealing or reinforcing materials secured by adhesives, e.g., felt, leather, heavy fabrics, natural or synthetic rubber sheets or sponges.
