Abstract
580,710. Electrolytic production of metal powder. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., WILSDON, S. C., and TURNER, B. Aug. 22, 1944, No. 16000. [Class 41] [Also in Group XXII] Metal is deposited electrolytically on a cathode of like metal which has been formed by compacting a mass of metal powder, e.g., by a pressure of 35 tons per sq. inch without sintering. The cathode with its deposit is then removed from the bath and, after washing and if desired annealing to remove occluded hydrogen, the whole is reduced to powder in a ball mill or other suitable apparatus. The product may be reduced chemically in a suitable atmosphere to remove oxides formed after electrodeposition. For deposition of iron the electrolyte may contain ferrous sulphate, ferrous chloride and ammonium chlorate.
