Abstract
580,424. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and BELL, J. April 1, 1944, No. 6120. [Class 39 (i)] A device of the kind comprising a metal tube 7, vitreous tubes 1, 1<1> of smaller diameter than the tube 7 and an electrode or electrode assembly having at least one dimension greater than the diameter of the vitreous tubes is made in the following steps. The tube 1 is sealed to a collar 3 on the inside of an annular metal plate 2 ; the electrode 4. as shown an indirectly heated cathode, is then mounted in the tube 1. The tube 1<1> is similarly sealed to a collar 3<1> on an annular metal plate 2<1> ; an electrode 4<1>, as shown a cylindrical grid, may then be mounted on the tube 1<1>. The metal tube 7 is then mounted between the plates 2, 2<1> to form an air-tight closure by clamping with interposition of washers 8, 8<1> of gold or other material or by soldering. The tubes 1, 1<1> may be re-entrant. A cooling block 9 which may be apertured is provided. Specification 450,275 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
