Abstract
580,185. Surgical syringes. PHETHEAN, N., and BALLAMY, L. M. June 5, 1944, No. 10805. [Class 81 (ii)] A hypodermic syringe comprises a glass barrel 10; Fig. 1, having a metal nozzle cap 12 and a metal reinforcing ring 15, a metal plunger 18 making a fluid-tight fit with the cylinder and of such size that when fully' advanced the cylindrical portion extends for substantially the whole length of the cylinder, and a braking spring 17 bearing against the plunger. The plunger may be formed from a hollow rod 25, Fig, 3, closed by a plug 29, or from a metal tube 32, Fig. 4, closed by two plugs 29 and 33. A groove 21 may be provided on the plunger to engage non-positively with the spring 17 and from this groove upwards the diameter of the plunger is slightly reduced. A series of grooves 34 may serve to improve the fluid-tight fit. The light alloy known under the Registered Trade Mark "Birmabright" may be used in the construction of the syringe. Specification 551,545 and U.S.A. Specification 1,343,787 are referred to.
