Abstract

579,796. Flow meters. FISCHER & PORTER GO. April 17, 1944, No. 7052. Convention date, April 27, 1943. [Class 69 (i)] Relates to flow meters in which a float or sinker moves substantially vertically within an elongated 'metering chamber of variable crosssection under the pressure of the fluid to be measured. In Fig. 1, a thick-walled meter tube 20, of glass, synthetic plastic, &c., has a cylindrical bore 21 in which are formed flutes 23 of uniform radial depth and vertically varying cross-sectional area forming variable byepasses for the fluid ; the float 27 has a cylindrical body 29, with a thinknife-edged disc at its upper end and at its lower end, a smaller disc 30 with apertures 49. Float 27 may be replaced by a float 32, Fig. 11, having a conical upper end 33 with knife-edge 34. In Fig. 10, the metering tube 37 contains an axial cylindrical rod 38 with flutes 40 of uniform depth and vertically-varying cross-section ; the float 45 has an annular upper end 46 and a conical lower end 45 terminating in a knifeedge 48.
