Abstract
578,215. Road-vehicle bodies. METROPOLITAN - CAMMELL CARRIAGE & WAGON CO., Ltd., and RAYER, F. H. July 29, 1944, No. 14529. [Class 108 (i)] The body of a motor coach or omnibus is built up from spaced pillars 10 connected on opposite sides of the body by cross members 11 carrying the floor 12, and connected longitudinally by sheet metal pressings 14 of substantial depth outside the pillars at the level of the waist rail, and by a similar lower series of pressings 23 on the inner sides of the pillars. Each upper pressing has an inturned edge 16 to meet the window mountings 17, and its lower edge is folded upwardly and inwardly at 18. An angle iron 19 welded to the pressing supports the waist rail and window assemblies. The pressing is secured to the pillars by a deep bracket 20 carried by the pillar and having laterally extending parts to receive the ends of adjacent pressings. Cranked flanges 21 are riveted to the angles 19. External panels 22 engage under the flange 18. The inner series of pressings 23 have seat rail flanges 24 and are similarly secured. Angles 13 connect the pillars to the cross members 11.
