Abstract
645,341. Vehicle bodies. NYSTROM, K. G. Nov. 29, 1946, No. 35498. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1945. [Class 108(i)] Cabs or bodies of a standard shape are adapted to be fitted to any type of chassis by utilizing a built-up framework having a floor or cross members which are secured to the chassis. As shown in Fig. 4, a cab is built up of two front posts 10 and two rear posts 11 supported at their lower ends on a frame 12 of angle section having the upper flange turned inwardly and mounted on a wooden or other floorboards 22 by which the cab is secured to the chassis 21. The upper ends of the posts 10, 11 are connected together and the front posts 10, Fig. 1, are cross-connected by a wooden frame 23 constructed to fit the cowl of the chassis and a metal frame .14 for the front window. Frames 16, 17 extend from near the top ends of the frame 14, over the top of the cab and down the back to the base frame 12, transverse frames 19, 15 between the frames 16, 17 providing a recess for the rear window or windows. The frame 15 extends beyond the frames 16, 17 to the frames 11, struts 15 supporting the median portion of the frame 15 from the base 12. The frames 10, 11, Fig. 5, comprise hollow sections 25, 26 and 31, 32 respectively which are flanged at 27, 33 and welded, certain parts such as door hinges 30 and jointing plates 28, 29 being welded to the sections before they are placed together. Sheet metal covering 34 is bent around the flanges 27, 33 and welded thereto. The metal frame 14 for the front window comprises two Z-sections welded together to form a U-section having a common flange 35, Fig. 6, adapted to engage a rubber fillet 36 for securing the window pane 37 in the frame, the lower flanges of the frame embracing the wooden frame to the cowl. The members 15...18 of the frame are of "hat" section and their meeting surfaces are connected by a T-shaped sheet metal cap 45, Fig. 10, of corresponding section the flanges of the cap and frame being welded together.
