Abstract

577,890. Aircraft gun mountings. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., FRISE, L. G., and FONSECA, E. C. M. D'ASSIS-. Feb. 13, 1940, No. 2780. [Class 92 (i)] A piston-and-cylinder device 20, 21 for counterbalancing the effect of air pressure in training aircraft guns, utilizes a vacuum or partial vacuum in the cylinder so that the counterbalancing force is produced by atmospheric pressure. In the form shown, the cylinder 21 is carried by the frame 15 supporting the gun turret 10 and the piston 20 is connected to a crankpin 18 on a gear-wheel 17 rotating in phase with the turret by being geared to a fixed wheel 14 of equal size on the axis of the turret. Adjustment for altitude of flight is effected by admitting air to the cylinder by cock 22. Automatic adjustment to suit gun elevation may be effected by sliding the cylinder on the frame 15.
