A dry paper web is tub-sized in a paper-making machine with a freshly-mixed, cold solution of urea, formaldehyde and aluminium sulphate, e.g. in proportions 5 : 5 : 1, and heated as by rollers to 100 DEG C. or less to dry the paper and harden the synthetic resin.
