577,268. Electric water-heaters. GRAYBLER CORPORATION (ENGLAND), Ltd., and GABLER, J. May 22, 1944, No. 9872. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In an electric water heater, water is admitted to the apparatus through a spring ball valve 34 and flows from an inlet tube 17 into a trough 27, from which it overflows through weir pipes 28 on to the concave upper ends of upstanding, tubular, electrically heated bodies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Each body comprises a tubular wire wound heating element 6 carried on a rod 7 and contained in a casing 10, the whole having an outer casing 12 provided with a helically-wound wire 13, or a helical fin, to delay the flow of water down its surface. The heated.water then passes through an outlet tube 18 at the bottom of the heating chamber formed by a casing 16 and a plate 14. One of the current supply leads 44, 45 is interrupted by a mercury switch 42. A tube 37 and a Bourdon tube 38 provide means whereby the mercury switch is deflected into the on " position whilst water is being admitted to the apparatus, and into the "off " position on terminating the inflow of water. The trough 27 is provided with a lateral overflow tube 30 having a cut-out portion 31 to allow the escape of steam from the water heating chamber.
