Abstract

577,232. Gems. GOLDSTEIN, E. March 21, 1944, No. 5256. Convention date, May 5, 1943. [Class 43] The girdle 5 of a precious or semi-precious stone, such as a diamond or emerald, between a facetted crown 1 and a facetted pavilion 2 comprises substantially flat facets 8 at least as great in number as the number of crown facets 6. The girdle facets 8 are preferably polygonal and intersect to form edges 9 which provide a firm grip for the material of the setting and prevent rotation of the stone in its setting. The girdle facets 8 may be equal in length, with about two and half in number to each crown facet adjoining the girdle. The girdle 5 may, as shown, be parallel to the axis, or be inclined thereto preferably upwardly and inwardly at an angle of 10-30‹ from the vertical, so as to present the girdle facets to view from the front of the stone.
