Abstract

576,999. Filters. PUYDT, F. A. De. July 7, 1944, No. 13025. [Class 46] A filter for oil or other liquids comprises a casing 12 within which is a receptacle 19 for filter elements 23 of cotton waste or like material separated by discs 24, each element being ejected in turn from the receptacle as it becomes clogged. The elements are ejected by means of a plate 18 on a shaft 16 turned by a handle 17, the shaft being screwed into the cover 15 for the casing 12. The receptacle 19 is supported by a plate 20 which divides the casing 12 into two parts, the lower part receiving the liquid to be filtered and the upper part having an outlet pipe 37 for filtered liquid. The liquid before filtration enters a heat-exchange casing 26 from which it is pumped through a coil 32 and pipe 35 into the casing 12. The coil 32 is placed in a housing 33 containing liquid heated by an electric heater 34. If the oil is at too low a temperature to pass through the filter elements it is returned through pipe 36 and a by-pass valve 29 to the pump for re-circulation. The filtered and heated liquid as it flows out through a coil 38 in the casing 26 gives up heat to the incoming liquid. The casing 12 has a detachable base-plate 14 for the removal of spent filter elements and sludge. Two complete filters may be arranged so that one can be in operation while the elements in the other filter are being replaced.
